Ms. Okwandu received a Juris Doctorate from Pepperdine University School of Law, and a certificate from the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, the nation's premier program for mediation, arbitration, and dispute resolution. She also completed a certificate with the Palmer Center for Entrepreneurship and the Law, where she grasped a strong understanding of merger and acquisitions, contract and business formation, quality assurance and security. Ms. Okwandu received the “Excellence in Peacemaking” honor for exhibiting the highest order of the pillars of professionalism in law school. Ms. Okwandu received a Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, in Political Science and two minors in African American studies and Civic Engagement from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Ms. Okwandu’s practice involves advising community college districts, school districts, charter schools, and district-affiliated research foundation clients on education law, employer-employee relations, employee disciplinary matters, and compliance with state and federal laws, including Cal/OSHA, the California Education and Government Codes and Title V of the California Code of Regulations, as well as the California Public Records Act, Ralph M. Brown Act and Title IX.
Prior to joining the Erickson Law Firm, Ms. Okwandu represented clients in all facets of litigation, involving complex commercial issues of liability and damages. Ms. Okwandu’s areas of concentration include personal injury, employment, product liability, tort defense, professional liability defense, construction law and transactional matters. She is a creative problem solver that will enhance partnerships to maintain transparency and preserve trust. Chiemela is not only a fierce advocate but she understands the intersection of social justice and public governance.
Ms. Okwandu is a member of the California Lawyers Association, American Bar Association, the San Diego County Bar Association, and the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
